For those that do not know I support Macs for a living. On an overnight shift which means really, not that many calls. Tonight I had the best call ever.
Far as I can figure she was watching the console and just picking out keywords. It seems this is her 3rd machine (the other 2 being windows xp boxes) and every time they have back HACKED!!! by some guy she met online who lives in India.
Keep in mind I work for a 3rd party warranty service and she has no warranty with us. But for 15min I got to listen to her throw out buzz words and paranoia.
"He's hacking in with bash though my BSD...."
ok sure why not.... I allow it. lol
"Now he's hacking though my UI files!"
do what now?
"I already DID unplug my broadband, now he's in though my airport!"
She doesn't seem to have airport, also the guy lives in india. She lives in the US.
"Before that he was in through a null modem! You know what that is DON'T YOU?"
Yeah, which is why I assume he's apparently in the same room when he did it, even though somehow he's in India.
-------------
I really REALLY hope that this was one of my randomly recorded phone calls. I'm going to ask in the morning. Its a gem.

I feel your pain Flaystus, I feel your pain. I work for Bell Sympatico (Dsl internet). The calls we get in here are nuts. Some gooood examples:
"Ma'am, take the dsl wire that looks exactly like a phone cable. Plug one end into the dsl plug or opening of the modem that we sent you. The modem is the black box with the lights on the front. Then take the other end of the cable and plug it into the phone jack that you would normally plug your phone into."
*pause*
"But where is my phone jack?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What version of windows do you have?"
"Well, I live in a condo so they are probably double paned glass."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ok, click on start, then run."
"How do you spell run?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ok, click on start."
"Its not working."
"What isnt?"
"My mouse and keyboard."
"Are they plugged in correctly?"
"I think so. I just plugged them back in this morning."
"May I ask why they were unplugged in the first place?"
"I had to wash them."
"Sir, what did you wash them with?"
"The dishwasher."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And its not just stuff like that. The REASONS that people call. Its an internet company. What goes through some peoples minds to make the connection that some of these problems have anything to do with the internet:
"Yes my cd burner isnt working right."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"My monitor wont go on."
Its just endless ....

I've had stupid callers, and had secuirty nuts, but this lady needs some SERIOUS medication. If you heard 2 min of the conversation you'd understand what I mean.
