  1. When I try to play VBR MPEG-2 encoded video in Windows Media Player (or RealPlayer), it doesn't let me seek, and crashes the program when I push stop.
I thought this might have something to do with my MPEG-2 decoders being "incompatible" with Windows Media Player ??? or something

    I have WinDVD 4, PowerDVD 4xp, and InterActual 2.0

Is there such a thing as a free MPEG-2 decoder that i can download which is compatible with WMP?

    - The only reason i need WMP to work with MPEG-2 is for making chapters via VCDEasy ... I normally use Media Player Classic

Sure, there is a MPEG decoder available in 'Tools' to the left. <<<
But you already have one if you are using PowerDVD and Windows Media Player and WinDVD. You are using Interactual Player? Very bad program in my experience. Tends to screw up codecs and I treat it like a Hollywood virus. Sorry, just my rant. Nevertheless, I think your problems are elsewhere.

Not being able to FF or seek is usually a problem with the file itself, not the decoder. You might try VLC media player and see how it works. It uses it's own codecs. If it has the same problems, then it would seem the video file is the problem.

  3. The video clips play perfectly via Media Player Classic, but do not play properly in WMP or RealPlayer...

could InterActual have messed up my decoder?
