I am testing the Apac portable cd/cd mp3/vcd player. It is screwing up on my cheap cds. I want to test it on the best before I render a verdict on this thing.

In my personal experience, Verbatims. They've never given me a single problem.

As above plus TDK - I never have problems with CD-R's which are a very dark blue.

As MY rule of Thumb if a CDR company's website or packaging indicates the type of dye used (Phthalocyanine, AZO, etc..) it's pretty safe/good in my opinion.
For example there was brand called "Maxell CD-R Pro" which cost the same as Kodak or Verbatim, but the packaging and it's website contained little or no information at all about the chemical make-up. I called their support line and found out it uses the same dye as the cheaper Maxells (Cyanine dye) but the Pro version has a better protective top lining.
I used to be a cassette tape junkie. I would try different types of cassette tapes (TDK, Maxell, chromium, metal) just to reach that CD quality...LOL...then came CDRs!
