I have had this problem for a long time, and I'm at a loss on how to fix it.

A while ago I started to get green vertical lines and colored pixelation in my avi playback in WMP 9. This does not happen in any other players (VLC or Divx) or on other computers. I have uninstalled all my codecs, and WMP and reinstalled as well as doing a fresh install in windows and all to no avail. I am at my wits end now, and I hope someone here can help me.

I have scoured the web looking for similar problems and/or solutions and have found none. Please, if someone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it!

    I'm running Win2000, with divx 5.05, xvid 1.03, ffshow 20020617, matroska pack, and 3ivx.

  2. ffdshow has caused problems for me in the past. Uninstalling it fixed the problems. Try a newer DIvx too.

    Codec problem related.

WMP is crap. It has too many bugs and never plays most videos correctly. I cant even play dvd using WMP. Do a forum serach and see how many problems are related to WMP.

Solution: stick to an alternative palyer. Try Media Player Classic. its a freeware.

    Just my opinion.

Removing ffdshow removed the green lines from playback in wmp, but they still show up in tmpeng and virtual dub. I understand that it's a codec problem, but I can't figure out which! And I do realize wmp sucks, which is why I have divx and vlc, but for encoding I'm finding that what shows up in wmp is what shows up in the encodes, so I use it as a test. Only now, it doesn't work. Any more suggestions?

Yes I did, to 5.2.1. But still everything I try to convert has the green lines. This is really become frustrating. I can't do anything until this is fixed!

  6. I'd uninstall all the mpeg4 codecs and install only XVID. Then see if you can get clean playback. The Matroska pack includes ffdshow too doesn't it?

My problem turned out to be the xvid codec itself. As soon as I removed xvid, everything works fine. ffdshow still gives me some problems in playback (red and blue blocks all over the screen), but it doesn't show up in the converted files, so I'm not too concerned for the moment. Will I be okay using divx only?
