Hi all. I've been having nothing but problems, problems and more problems trying to put my video collection to DVD!!!
The biggest problem is converting MPEG bitrates to make it sizeable to fit onto DVDs. For starters I use a DVICO Fusion MPEG2 capture card which when I capture video I must first run it through PVAStrumento program to correct the syncing on bad analog video which it does successfully 99% of the time. However when I have to convert the bitrates down eg. from 8000kbps to say 5800kbps for 1.5 hour video so it can fit on DVD using Ulead Video Studio 7 when playing the MPEG back the audio is way out of sync for some stuffed up reason!!!!! In Ulead I trim the video before converting so I don't get the extra offcuts, so it makes me wonder if they might have anything to do with it?
Anyhow this is one of MANY problems I have when making DVDs and it's getting to the point that I just want to cry![]()

!!! I can't stand it anymore
!!! Reason being is I'm wasting time on my off work days and I end up having to do things up to 5 flamin' times to get it right and I've just had enough!!! I've got so much to put to DVD and not having much opportunity because of these bloody problems
!!!
I'm badly in NEED a program that can trim and reencode MPEGs to a different bitrate without stuffing up the AV syncing and also be able to convert to vobs without stuffing up the AV syncing as I've had perfect videos losing audio or audio syncing problems when converting to them to vobs using Ulead Video Studio 7 and that is so unfair!!! I'm really starting to lose faith in Ulead.
Is there any free programs that can encode without syncing hassles? If not is there any programs for a decent price that I can get from a local computer shop without having to order online using credit card?
All I want is to record a program on my Fusion MPEG2 capture card, put it through PVAStrumento to fix any bad video sync issues, trim the video and reencode it if I can't fit it to DVD, then convert the files to vobs, all without those flamin'AV sync or loss of audio complications!
I'm now considering saving up for a DVD recorder as I'll be able to get DVDs done on the fly and get a lot more of my old tapes backed up than I would capturing and converting.
Cheers
Troy

Get the standalone recorder.
From the tone of your post, I doubt you have the patience to fix audio sync the manual way.
I can offer a couple of suggestions though.
You should be capturing at a bitrate that will fit the video you want, onto disk, without re-encoding.
You should learn how to do audio manually/externally.
You should not be using ulead.
You should be using a TBC inline between the VCR and your capture card.
Give it a few minutes, and others will be along with more suggestions.Cheers, Jim

As reboot said, get a standalone recorder, especially if you have lots of things to convert.
If you really want to simplify your work, after you fix your file with PVAStrumento, re-encode it with VSO DivxtoDVD. It will quickly create the compliant VOBs and IFO files for burning. Seriously, try it and be done with it.
