I have a D-8 camcorder and am rather disappointed with my less than quality results converting to a DVD, thus far. I've been using MovieMaker to capture and edit, then MyDVD to burn. As you get what you pay for, I've paid nothing. Thus, my NEW thought process to limit my $$ output but get decent quality:
1. Capture with V-dub, then
2. Convert with TMPGenc
If I do this, what type program to edit, as all I'm looking to do is add some titles, trim files, maybe add picture files--all nothing fancy and steps I've been able to do. What type program would be good? It seems the new Vegas MovieStudio looks good.
Finally, can I import my wmv files into TMPGenc?
Thanks

WMV sucks for capture format.
If you want to use WMM to capture, use DV-AVI instead.
If you like virtualdub, try virtualVCR instead.
Capture using a good codec such as huffyuv, or slightly less quality with picvideo mjpeg.
Convert (encode) with tmpgenc if you must.
Vegas movie studio 4 is GREAT for editing.Cheers, Jim

Thanks, Jim.
Another question--for encoding to the DVD format...
..Why not EXPORT your edited file BACK to the DV Camcorder, then send the movie to a DVD Recorder via the firewire port. Would that not do essentially the same thing, but result in a better end product?JT -

Forget all that and try the new Sony direct to DVD DISC recorder/burner.
Just plug in your camcorder, etc. and record away.
Easy as it gets
