Making a backup copy of a DVD, I used:
The latest version of DVDCrypter (for ripping)
The latest version of DVDShrink (for taking out extras/compression)
DVDCrypter to burn.

Media: (4.7)
TDK DVD+RW (2.4x)
Fujifilm DVD-R (4x)
RITEKG04 DVD-R (4x)
Memorex DVD+R (8x)

Burner:
LiteOn LDW-411s

I have to mention with this player, when it reads an RW, it doesn't autoplay, I have to press the Play button for it to do anything. It doesn't have this problem with Recordables.

I've never had problems with any of the media in the past (though the Memorex brand I just bought recently).

I get an .ISO made with the software above and burn it to the +RW for testing on the player. All checks out fine. I then burn the .ISO to the Fujifilm. Put it in the player and I get a NO DISC error. I try the same with the Ridata and Memorex with the same problem.

I then try to use Nero to burn the ISO with the same results.

The burning was being done on an 2.4G P4, WinXP computer. Those DVDs played fine in my laptops DVD ROM.

No matter what I tried I couldn't get the player to read the discs. I ended up with 5 coasters (one's that didn't play on the laptop) and 7 DVDs that were playable on the laptop.

So I tried something that didn't make sense but worked: I tried doing a DVD Copy (with Nero) of the RW to all the Recordable. It worked! The player had no problem playing any of the discs.

The only thing that's changed is the version of the software I'm using.

Anybody else have a clue why this is or had a similar experience?

I guess now in the future, I need to make an RW for testing and once I have it set, just copy it to a Recordable.
