    hi there,

Please suggest a converter which can convert the following formats, without the loss of picture/sound quality, and preserving the original frame rate and picture size. I already tried out EO Video, but after conversion, it doesn't give the exact quality and moreover, doesn't give the option of preseving the original frame rate. So, please give me the right choice. The format conversions, I want are :

    1.) MOV to MPG/AVI/VCD
    2.) RM to MPG/AVI/VCD
    3.) AVI to MPG
    3.) MPG to AVI

    Hello,

One quick note - ANY conversion will result in SOME quality loss. You can't expect it to be a 1:1 conversion.

I've the River Past Video Cleaner, which converts quick time movies i.e., MOV to AVI format. The picture and sound quality of quick time movies is not new, and, must already be known to you. Now, even after conversion into AVI format, I got the same excellent video quality and an extremely enhanced sound quality (as it uses PCM Uncompressed Modulation & Demodulation).

Now, I want the same video of AVI format to be converted into MPG. I tried out EO Video, and got not even half the quality that River Past Video Cleaner provided during MOV to AVI conversion.

So, there exist good softwares on earth buddy, you can't say that all are imperfect.

MPG will always be lossy by its nature unlike avi which as you already noted can use PCM for audio and also RAW video or a lossless video codec.

VCD will definatly be lossy as it requires a set bitrate, resolution, etc.

So, guys, is there no software which can atleast convert AVI to MPG without loss of picture and sound quality and preserving the original frame rate. Please give me a valuable suggestion for god's sake.

It depends on what you mean by "without loss of picture and sound quality". MPEG is a lossy compression format. There will always be some loss of quality. Whether you can see it at normal playback is the question. There are tons of software MPEG encoders. Try TMPGEnc at high bitrates.

For MPEG to AVI try VirtualDubMPEG2 or VirtualDubMod (free and open source) along with the XVID/Divx/DV/MJPEG codecs. These are all lossy codecs like MPEG so you will loose some visual quality. HuffYUV will give you lossless compression but will result in much larger files.

I don't like EO Video because it screws up the black level and is very slow. But it's the only thing I've found that works reliably for Real Media files.

Your expectations are way out of whack.
Avi isn't a format it's an envelope that can contain almost any format. Same with MOV (Quicktime). You are converting compressed formats to compressed formats. RM to Mpg lossless? Why are you in RM to begin with?

Slow down. Tell us what you want to do in specific terms. What you have, what you want as a goal.

Have to say, you do come off clueless. Show us your stuff.

  8. polmon,

I agree with edDV. You are going way too fast. Read about the different audio & video formats available today, conversions etc., if you have not already done so. Then you would know that conversions between formats will result in some loss of quality. To go into "lossless" domian means dealing with huge really huge files. Generally not adviseable.

What is that you want to achieve in the end. VCD / SVCD / DVD, MPEGs or AVI on you hdd, what ?? Many tools are available for diff things. To deal with AVI files use VirtualDubMOD. To encode MPEG1 & MPEG2 files use TMPGEnc Plus. To author VCD / SVCD use EasyVCD. To author DVD use TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVD Lab Pro. I have mentioned some of the well established s/w which people are using around the globe. There are more. Check in the tools section.
When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months.
