  1. As guns1inger said David Tennant is doing four more specials (the next at Easter), but I believe they are an hour long each (like the Christmas Special) not feature-length; although I live in hope

In January, the BBC took the unprecedented step of having a peak-time programme to announce that the relatively unknown Matt Smith will take over as the Doctor. Usually it's just an announcement on the News. It still pulled in 6m viewers IIRC.

I've been out of the Doctor Who loop for over a year or more now..ever since Sci-Fi took it and slacked off with it on occasion, and then my cable took Sci-Fi off my line up, and then finally, (analog) cabletv is gone from me It went the way of the static snow you see in no reception

So, I'm completely out of touch with the series. Actually, the last episode I did see (and record to vhs tape, EP mode) was the one where David Tennant and Billie were in this astorid or planet gone dead, and they were digging deep inside it, till they reached the core or something, where they (the doctor) found this creature (god-like) and it escaped into another's body as a new hoast I guess, and then later, he got sucked through the space ships window and fell through the black whole, I think. Sorry. I'm remembering from way back. Maybe someone has a better, clear'er description

But I thought that one was a great episode, IMHO. It really was. I can't wait to find that tape so that I can capture it and archive it to dvd or something. But that's the last episode that I remember watching before it went off the air or something in my area. Anyway.

    @ Cole,

got any pics of the new who char ?
Also, who's gonna be the new chic with him ? .. and pics of her, too ?

Post some pics, no links, please..I'm still on dial-up, thanks..

  3. Matt Smith is relatively unknown (i.e. has had not major starring role in anything to date) and is also the youngest actor to be cast. At 26 he is three years younger than when Peter Davison took the part.

Apart from this casting (and some reports in the press today that the Tardis interior will be changed when Matt takes over) there has been no release of the new Doctor's costume, neither has the part of the new assistant been announced.

AFAIK the Beeb start filming in the Summer/Autumn so there should be an announcement soonish.

Peter Moffat is taking over from Russell T Davis on the next series too (He of the "flicking the Vs at the Starlog Offices" fame). Moffat has been writing the better stories over the last few series and this promised a darker overall series.

The story you remember was from series 2 was called The Satan Pit and the monster was meant to be the Devil.
This was the second part of a two parter.

For me the best over-all series was series four; there wasn't a clunky episode in the entire run and, in the UK, the finale episode was the number one watched programme for that week beating off the Soaps and (just) a Wimbledon Tennis final.

Us saddo fans who were there in 1989, when it was cancelled, would never have dreamed that this series would be so hugely successful, as it is in the UK, ever again!

Thank you Cole for your brief summary. You're a good person..no extermination for you!

Ok, so in the Satins Pit eipsode, (your use of series confuses me) isn't that in season 3 ?
And, what season are we up to now ?

I've never seen anything doctor who 'ish series on dvd at my local movie rental. I would love if they did have one so that I could take a visit and rent ( season 3 ? cause I haven't seen the rest of that season, I don't think) and 4, I think ? and it would be nice if they would release tv series (seasons) on bluray, now that I have a player/writer at my side, via usb

I think my favorite episode would have to be the one where all the people were waring masks, and they would always say, "are you my mommy?". That was my favorite. I think that was also a two part-er, included Billie Piper, and included another favorite char, you know.. the one that kissed the doctor at the end just before he was gonna die in the other episode with the Daleks, just before the doctor changed to the new doctor, (aka, David Tennent) that was also good episode, too. I like his char. I he was refered to as the sky captain or something. I forget. But you're good at remembering these things.

I am so out of touch with all the seasons 3, onward. Although I do miss Billie Piper, she was ever-so cute.

    * my favorite doctor, as seen in repeats back in mid 80's on cabletv.

Yeah, please keep us informed of the latest news of events as you hear them.

  5. Sorry Vhelp; traditionally in the UK we use 'Series' where you would say 'Season'. Season is starting to creep in, in television terms, like we now say 're-run' where it used to be called a 'repeat'.

So; since 2005 there has been a season and a Christmas Day Special. Season 4 finished last Summer and thus the last time there was a new Doctor Who episode was last Christmas Day.

However, there will not be a new season this year; what the BBC are doing instead is having four hour-long (I believe) specials. The next being Easter; so not that long to wait

We presume that the last special is when Doctor 10 will regenerate into Doctor 11 and season five will start in Spring 2010.

Billie Piper (Rose was her character name) re-appeared in Season 4 where the teams from all of the spin-off series (Torchwood with Captain Jack Harkness, was he the one you thought of as Sky Captain?, and The Sarah Jane Adventures) all joined forces to fight the Daleks.

The Empty Child (with the Gas Masks) was season one; The Satan Pit was season two; there is quite a lot you haven't seen my friend

The episodes do get a very quick Vanilla DVD release (about three episodes per disc) and a full season box set, with extras, nearer Christmas. No Doctor Who in HD up to now, however, the Easter special is the first Doctor Who that has been made in HD.

Well you can see her naked in Secret Diaries of a Call Girl but I think she looks better clothed
Aside from that she was excellent in that series.

Indeed she was at that. Anyway.

I wonder what brought that on, hmm.. she left the show, maybe thinking she can do better, yada yada, and same'ol stuff as usaul for stars: they find out they are actually nobodays, and then take a wrong turn somewheres to make ends meet, till they find their 'nitch' again, I guess. Just theorizing. I could be completely wrong about Billie, though..I hope.

Well, for what its worth. When I first saw here in the first season first episode, she was ditsy and louzy actor. But, then as time went on, she found her place and made the show what it is, today..a success. I mean, she took the Doctor Who series into the next level (ERA) or new mold for this generation. At least thats how I see it. And, like I said, I miss her. I don't care what I miss her. I don't care what she's done, before or after the series: She'll always be my, Rose!

In that last Doctor Who episode she appear in, she seems to have the same speech impediment as Miley Cyrus. It sounds like her tongue is 2x too large for her mouth. I don't know what causes that warble in their speech, I'd never heard anything like that until those two actresses. It makes them hard to understand sometimes.

I mean nothing negative by this, it's just something I noticed.

That was largely covered in the UK press when the episodes went out. Rose's accent is not quite Billy Piper's and it appeared to take her a while to get it right again.

I don't buy the accent excuse. Her mouth seemed half-tranquilized.

Agreed. If it wasn't for the subtitles on the DVDs, I'd have no idea what her lines were half of the time. :P
Okay, to be honest, I couldn't understand what she said like 90% of the time...

Ok, also, today I picked up two volumns of one of the orignal era's of the Doctor Who series, with Tom Baker. I got "The Deadly Assassin" story # 88 and "Image of the Fendahl" story # 94, discs. There are 3 episodes on each volumn. These are from the 1974-1981 series. I looking forward to seeing them as well. I can't wait.

Well, this is what I came back to this topic for, but got julted by the Billie Piper post above and couldn't resist.

Yes, you get to see more of her in "Secret Diary of a call girl". I don't know if versions of that program are taylored for differing censorship in different countries.
    Have a nice Day
