what a bunch of X-BOX fanboy rantz.....
    anywhooo
only Micro$oft will be releasing their 'next-gen' system this year.
$ony and Nintendo won't release their next consoles until 2006
if you want a large selection to choose from as far as games library, go with the PS2, as it is backward compatible with over 99% of PS1 games
a lot of folks play emulators on their X-BOX's tho, which (depending on your hard-drive size) could theoretically give you a game library of 1000's of games all on one system. Personally, I play emu's on my PC, since I do not have, nor do I want an X-BOX.

going a bit off topic, will the Dreamcast (Chankast) arcade (M.A.M.E.) and PS1 (ePSx) emulators run on X-BOX?

Yes JEDI KNIGHT OUTCAST is GREAT!!!! Even though the graphics are now outdated the game control is superb - at least the pc version I have, the xbox should be top notch as well.

They also have RETURN TO WOLFENSTEIN for the XBOX

If you want a great Medal of Honor game for the Xbox, check out Medal of Honor: Frontline. I think it is very similar to Allied Assault for the PC. If you truly want to be able to play Playstation games like Tomb Raider and such I would definately recommend looking into Xbox modding. There is a great PSOne emulator that you can use that will play most PSOne games... If I could remember the name... hmmm.... nope! Not there. Anyway, there a plenty of great emulators for the Xbox (not that you absolutely need them, the xbox is pretty good on its own.)

@Xylob - Yes, there are some form of those emulators (maybe even direct ports of those specific emus) for the xbox. The only emulator I haven't seen yet is a working N64 Emulator.

I loved that game and I guess that was when I last wasted away in front of a games console with GT 2 . I purposely resisted getting a PS2 or anything else when they came out as I'd don't want to waste hours getting addicted to games again.

    bring back Manic Miner! 8)

:edit: hahaha , just downloaded that game and it's great to see it again but with a more modern type of graphic

Not sure I understand all this emulator stuff for the xbox, but I'll do some research.
Sure sounds a neat idea to be able to play all kinds of platforms on the xbox.

Thanks for the pros and cons ie. xbox vs ps2, but as for "...not as many games for the xbox" I don't think I'll be playing that many and I certainly won't be backing them up so the speed in doing so isn't an issue.
Also, I'm not too worried about the fact the xbox will shortly be replaced, £99 ($200? : man, I love sterling right now!) is my max for games consoles so I wouldn't be buying the xbox2 (?) for a while yet.
I must admit I kinda made up my mind on the xbox before I posted, there's just something about it; I just wanted some feedback.

Anyway, I bought the xbox, only played simpsons hit and run and gotham race 2 (sp?) but sure am impressed, but I re-installed my ATI drivers on my PC and spent the last three hours of my free time (Mon and Tues eves) playing Medal of Honour: Allied Assault.
Man, that is one great game.
I even started from scratch I love it so much.
Right, I'm off to search ebay.co.uk for Medal of Honour Frontline, Jedi Outcast and some form of Need for Speed, anything with a silver porche, a rickety old bridge and a police car (similar to the one from smokey and the bandit)

Add: A boxing one wouldn't be too bad either.
Anyone remember that arcade game, the one where you were a green mesh boxer and the opponents were odd looking cartoon type characters?
My goodness, to be able to play that again......

No idea if this is on consoles, but FarCry is a great PC game. Just the right mix of sneakiness, gun blazing, exploring and burning round in buggies.

If you sort out the emmulators you can and many more.

Nothing like playing r-type, track and field etc.. on a 42 inch plasma in surround sound.

Get it chipped Will, only costs £25. I have countless new games but I always find myself playing some old school beat em up like ninja turtles or Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

finally passed the god damn National B license tests... well, ok, i could have steamed through them and got all bronze in 20 minutes flat, but i wanted to get all gold for the special prizes.

two weeks and genuinely painful thumbs later, i've given up and settled for silver.

for the graduation test, even the demo driver - using a wheel and god knows what else - only squeaks it by a bare 17 thousandths of a second! That's less than one field let alone frame, here in the UK...... wtf... how's anyone supposed to get gold on that, especially with a pad?

Did my hardest and shaved it down to getting fairly regular 23-to-45 thousandths away... words cannot discribe the immense ******* frustration at being such an unimaginably miniscule distance away from getting that gold several times over and only missing it because i might have pushed a button slightly too softly for about a fiftieth of a second at some random point during the test.

Until then, I *had* thought the "guide lap" tests were difficult, as they took maybe 30 goes before you finally cracked gold..... follow this pace car, don't hit him, don't dare drift all four wheels off the tarmac even for a fraction of a second, follow his racing line (you can't, he's in a sodding skyline to your mini / pt cruiser), oh and deal with the Traction Control / ASC turned right up to max, so that at even a hint of tyre squeal the game cuts the cars throttle and starts automatically braking, bringing you almost to a standstill. IE quite a long way from real racing conditions.

Oh, and there's no actual tutoring. No teacher / instructor to tell you what you've got wrong and how to fix it. All you know is that you fucked up in some tiny way during a test that could be anywhere from 20 seconds to 3 minutes long. Arrgh.

NES / Gameboy Megaman levels of difficulty. Ensures a high replay value, but puts your blood pressure right up - i was willing to find the test designer's name in the credits, hop on a plane to japan and strangle the bastard with my bare hands.

I dread to think what the international A and super licenses might be like, especially, thanks to GT's twisted and unneccessary progression system, you can't get into some races without them.

Worse still, i already thought the GT2 and GT3 ones were hard but it only took, what, a maximum of 10 attempts before you could get the feel of a course and get a reliable gold on it. It's like getting 99% on a university degree score and told that you'll only be getting a 2.1 instead of a first, as only those who score 100%, or preferably 101% and give the examiner a BJ, can have that honour.

So, um, yeah. Don't get GT4 if you want to relax, like.

Well you're going after all golds on the license tests, I think that takes a bit more conviction than doing even the 24-hour races in the game. That's a little too crazy for me. I just breeze through the license tests to attain them to compete in races which is where the fun is. Oddly enough the Super License tests are pretty easy since they're basically all time trials (though the "coffee break" is going to own you bigtime). My first time through the S tests I got a couple golds and several silvers (gold on the 'Ring baby 8) ) and the gold times didn't seem so awfully difficult to achieve.

I'm 45% in (no endurance races yet) and the hardest part so far are the ice races. The Blackpool race kinda sucked the big one because I was putting my moderately-tuned Griffith against a damn Speed12 with twice my torque, which actually wasn't so bad in the twisties but on the straight at Fuji he'd pass me like I was standing still, seriously. I literally had to knock him out of the race in order to win that round. But I won a Speed12 for my efforts. Right now I'm trying to win some more events to try to win a Class C car to compete in the GT championship cup. The CLK-GTR I won doesn't hold a candle to the cars in there which is absolutely ludicrous. I think I need to do an endurance race in order to win one of the nice cars. Meanwhile I'm slowly knocking out all the manufacturer cups which is a lot of fun.

For those using controllers for GT4, learn how to use both analog sticks: the left for steering is a must, but the right for accelerating/braking makes a big difference too. Not only is it easier on your accelerator thumb it gives you a lot better control with the faster cars. It's also easier on the X button. It took me some getting used to but now it's all I use. You should also be driving from inside the car or bumper view as it'll let you see your lines a lot better.

Well, I bough the x-box (end of March, I think I mentioned this, did I?) and so far reckon I've spent an hour on it.
I re-installed my ATI drivers and finished medal of honoUr, man that is one great game.

There was one title other than Forza that is upcoming on the Xbox that may actually convince me to get one but I can't recall what it is for the life of me. Next time I see it advertised I'll remember, I'll just have to write it down this time.

GT4 still owns me on the PS2. I've plateau'd at 89% as I am still missing some challenges, some ice events, and one or two endurance events. Lately I've been running B-spec to get tons of cash to get odd cars here and there and then take them out for fun on the Ring mostly. The graphics are nice, but they are totally secondary to how much fun it is bombing around that course, which I think know well enough now to tackle in real life when I get over there. I've seen so much in-car video from the Nurburgring to know that the game is very close to the real thing. Crazy.

I have to agree with Will though, there are some PC games that are great fun to revisit. I only did the Medal of Honor series on PS1 and loved those. I did enjoy Call of Duty though, still one of the most intense games I've ever played. I like to go back through FarCry ever so often as well just because it's so stunning to behold at great framerates (especially with the new card). I'm still a BF1942 addict and play a lot of DCX and Forgotten Hope mods of it. Looking forward to BF2 coming out soon.
