  1. i have seen way too many post's on other forums about people having problem's playing movie's they recorded with their dvd recorder.

someone should make a sticky about dvd's must be finalized before it will play on other players instead of the one it was made on..

the afterdawn forum is a good example of what i am talking about..

ive only had my recorder for 3 days i knew instantly without any prior information that the dvd had to be finalized to make it compatible..

the new owners of dvd recorders will surely find the sticky most helpful.

    Hello,

Well I have a standalone cd recorder that is hooked up to my stereo system. It too needs to be finalized before it can play a normal cd player. It has BIG WARNINGS in the manual that you have to finalize to play the disc.

I would hope the dvd recorders have a similar warning message. Though how many people read the manuals????

A sticky can help but many people here don't read the stickies. They just keep asking basic questions that are covered in the guides.

I didnt necessarily know about this when I bought my recorder, but thankfully when I ejected the unfinalized disc, it had a caption at the bottom of the screen explaining that it has to be finalized before it can be played in other players. I would hope all players would have something to that effect

I have been looking for a standalone CD recorder for a long time. Can you tell me what brand yours is?
In fact, I have been waiting to buy a DVD recorder that has the capabilities to record CDs, and other than the LiteOn 5005, I'm not aware of any other brand. So buying a separate standalone CD recorder would solve that problem. tac7

  5. The sticky should also mention that DVD-RW must be initialized in video mode to play on most players.
