Been working on this for a while, on and off. It's a DVD of my son's 5th birthday. I did one for his sister - video, photos, some downloaded silliness - so I have to do one for him. If I get my arse into gear, I might get it finished before he turns 6.

Anyway, this is the main into and menu. All done using photoshop and after effects. You can't see it as clearly this small, but I have lifted him out of the photo, repaired the gap in the photo, then used after effects to make it look like he standing infront of the water and the camera is moving around him. It's subtle, but very nice.

I know it's indulgent to show off, but I get inspired by seeing some the work you guys do (although work isn't posted often enough), so here goes :

    Video (Xvid 882kb, no audio)

I'd love to check it out, but I don't have Xvid or Divx codec installed.

Maybe try wmv next time. I would guess that would be the most compatable codec, besides mpeg-1.

Just out of curiusity, is it anything like this?
    motion2.wmv

I made that in Wax2 with the Quick3D plugin. I used two images (dog and background) and animated them in 2D.

Because of the low bitrate used, the wmv doesn't do the original justice, but you get the effect.

CrisCross - it's half the size of the original to save download time

dipstick - you need to be a little more agnostic and try other formats. It is similar, although done manually. Mine came from a single photograph, so I have had to extract the subject (my son) from the photo, rebuild what was behind him, then set it up as seperate layers in AE. I then do a camera pan across the image, using my son as the target. The text lays just use different depths to pass behind or in front of him.

A couple of hours to get it all in place. There are 6 seperate comps all layered together to give me the most freedom.

Sorry, but I'm a firm believer in only installing codecs that are needed. I have no use for Xvid or Divix, so I don't install them.

I like that text passing in front and behind on seperate layers idea. I bet it looks cool. I'm sure it gives it more of a 3D effect.

Thanks trock. I just wanted to show what good Freeware can do.

I also have AE as well but I like to play with Wax2 just for kicks. It operates similar to AE, but not quite as powerfull or as easy. AE has nice grab handles that makes it easy to rotate / swivel images and video. In Wax2, you have to enter every movment manualy with keyframes, but gets similar results. It takes some time to figure it out, but it's well worth it, if you want to create special effects cheaply.

guns1inger is right on. More people should post some of their work. If nothing else, it gives others ideas.

    hi,
not trying to brag here, this kind of stuff can be easily done in Vegas and photoshop...for very complicated ones..after effects is the way to go.

    jakol, You're absolutely right.

It can also easily be done in Premiere Pro. Just create all the layers in Photoshop and save as psd with all layers razterized. Import into Premiere Pro as a "Sequence". You will then be able to animate each layer seperately.

I did a really cool one for my son's Baseball Team, but I won't post it because it has the players pictures and names.

Premiere Pro has so much after effects in it now that it should be easy. And yes, it can be done in Vegas, but not a quickly or flexibly. I'm a believer in using the best tools for the job. Yes, I can open a can of spagetti with a screw driver and hammer, but if I have a can-opener, why would I ?
