I had a multi-media keyboard that just went out on me. This keyboard allowed me to control audio volume (up and down) and mute. I replaced this keyboard with a Microsoft internet keyboard and I wanted to reprogram the "back", "forward" and "stop" hotkeys for lower volume, increase volume and mute. I done some searching on the net but haven't had any luck finding out if this is possible. Is this possible? If so, how?

My sound card is a PCI Creative Sound-Blaster soundcard. I'm controlling volume and mute through the speaker icon in my system tray. I also control volume manually through volume control on one of my speakers. I know I can't control the manual volume control from the keyboard. What I'm after is controlling the software audio control (i.e., one in the system tray).

For most multimedia keyboards the only buttons that will work by default under xp are the volume, play, stop and fast forward/rewind buttons.
The other buttons such as web browsing and quick launch buttons are not recognised by XP, you would need to install the specific keyboard application for you keyboard, for example with my logitech keyboard the program is iTouch, I have no idea what it is for MS. It should be on the cd that came with the keyboard or if you don't have it it should be on MS's site.

If I'm understanding you, you want to use the web back, forward and stop buttons so you'll need the specific application from MS.

Depending on what the software allows you might not even be able to change the functions of some buttons.

From what I've found or not found searching the net and the MS site I don't think it's possible. Thanks for the reply.
