  1. So I got the video test patterns I bought off ebay today. I encoded some test patterns and tinkered around with the sizes and aspect ratios to get nice circles on my TV (and not eggs). But the test patterns have color in them. I am certain they were black and white. Lots of blues and oranges. I guess it's mostly my TV, a junker the neighbors were throwing away when they left. What an eye-opener these patterns are. I just made a DVD from some BMP files and authored them to a disk. I'm afraid to even look at what these look like after being put on a VHS tape and run through my capture rig....

  2. What's the brand/size of your TV? Do the test patterns include a scale to that tells you roughly the resolution of your TV? Sounds interesting to play around with.

  3. There are some pattern with number son them, but I don't think they were really designed for what I did with my TV. I think a lot of them would be good for a monitor though. I think the TV is 25." A lot of the patterns have explanations as to how to use them, but since I don't have a oscilloscope or waveform monitor, I just eyeball it. Eyeballs are all I needed for that test... yuck.
