I am considering a big screen this year. I've sorta ruled out plasma, due mostly to the cost. I understand DLP has a spinning projector. A moving part in a television doesn't sound like a good idea. Just something to wear out. But then, I dont know much about LCD's. Looking for some opinions.

I've got a 30" LCD for my bedroom, not projection but just standard LCD flat panel. Works fine for me actually. Plasma and the whole burn-in issue really deterred me. DLP I guess is good due to no burn-in but apparently they aren't as thin as a plasma or regular lcd. I'll tell you one thing though, my LCD tv is bright as hell and I love it simply for that.

Hello,
Actually I remember reading a cnet article not too long ago that CRT is still excellent for HDTV and they were "SLIMMING" CRT to compete with LCD and plasma.

crt for quality. though lcds dont look too bad these days they're just not up to par.

wow..Im shocked people say that a LCD is not as good as a crt...I had a new HP crt and it looks real good, but then I bought this 17" LCD and just LOVE the way it looks!
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0 -

For picture quality, nothing beats CRT. LCDs are good too but not as good as CRTs. Ive got an LCD, mainly for saving desk space.

If price and picture quality is important get a CRT.If size, weight and "keeping up with the Jones' " is important get a LCD.
There are some very good HDTV CRT's out there(Sony,Toshiba,Samsung) in the $700US range.
Plasma is too damn expensive. -
What's the situation? I've been recommending high-end LCD projectors to people rather than getting plasma or LCD big-screens. If the logistics work out it's far more cost effective and you can have a pretty big screen depending on the projector you get. All you need is a good screen or a flat white painted wall, room near the ceiling is best placement for the projector itself, and you do need at least 5-6 feet of throw for most projectors.
I got one of these on sale for $2800 and project onto a 6x8' screen:

Picture is fantastic (1024x768 native and HD capable) and it has enough lumens to be plenty visible even in with natural light coming into the room. Mine is set in a fake panel in the suspended ceiling of my basement, and once I get my HTPC server closet rigged it'll be hooked up via RGB to that.
Just another recommendation if it works for you. Check NewEgg for better prices on that and other good ViewSonic projectors.FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -
Are you guys talkin' monitors or TV's?
I'm talkin' TV's here.
If you watch HDTV on an LCD TV, there is no comparision with a CRT. It looks WAY BETTER.
I have seen them side by side. -
I guess it all depends on the resolution. The higher the resolution, the better the quality.
