  1. This is a 2-part question. I have a large collection of music video from the late 60s/early70s - about 40-50 Gb of material, which includes over 50 full-length movies of concerts, documentaries, etc., and around 200 individual song performances. I need to try and organize it now, but don't know how to do some things which maybe someone could help me with.
    1. COPY TITLES: I have a number of .rar files that each contain 10-20 "music videos," in .avi form. How can I copy just the titles (not the video/audio) of the individual songs in groups (rather than copy each one individually), so that I can print out a list of what is in each one, or a master list of all of the titles in the rar folders? Also, in regular folders, is there a way to do this same thing, to copy just the titles of the individual items within the folder?
    2. CONVERSION TO VCD: What would be the easiest way to convert all of the individual .avi clips in the WinRar files to mpeg 1 (VCD) without having to do each one separately (I use TMPG, VirtualDub, Nero for converting, editing, burning disks)?

  2. 1) if you un-rar the rar files and the file name is the name of the video. You can use a DOS prompt to send it to the printer or to a file. Just un-rar the vids to a folder that you made, then open a dos prompt, go to that folder and type dir >lpt1 for printer. dir > titles.txt for a text file. now you can edit the titles.txt file with what ever text editor you like.

    2) check out the batch encode feature in tmpeg. you can set up a bunch of encodes and run the batch encode and let it run. it encode the 1st and when that is done it will start the 2nd...and so on..

    I hope this helps

  3. Thank you Jeepn. I finally decyphered what you have to put in Dos to get it to work. I've got about 2 pages of commands that I tried before I finally got it. Wasn't very familiar with this XP type of Dos. Had taken a class that was mainly on Dos (it was before Windows, so there wasn't much choice), but that's been almost 15 years ago, and remember very little now. Had to do some research. Forgot about that "cd" command. No wonder I wasn't getting anywhere. Yes, I think I can work with this for the titles.
For the other part, I've never tried batch encoding, but I had previously saved something in my "Favorites" that explains how to do that, so I think I can figure that out. Thank you very much for your help.
