Hi. I've got a Sharp DV camcorder which has a smaller version of a 3.5mm microphone input, its supposed to be for a zoom mic that fits on the accessory shoe, but i would like to know if its possible to buy an adapter to use a standard microphone?
If it helps i do have a microphone from some two way radios of the smaller size and it will record sound (and enable the zoom mic menu) if plugged into the camcorder.
Any help would be appreciated.

It's probably a mic-in. You can attach a shotgun mic, wireless mic...anything you like pretty much.

To use nice XLR low level 600 ohm mics or to take a low level line feed from a pro audio mixer, check out BeachTek

Thanks for your replies but the problem is the mic input is not a standard 3.5mm size, it looks the same only smaller (maybe 2.5mm) i really wanted to know if there is a simple "plug this into the camcorder and a standard microphone into this" adapter anywhere? thanks again.

If you're in the States drop by your local Radio Shack and take a look at their Inline Adapters:
