I used Divfix to scan a movie file on the Master IDE Hard drive (7200 RPM 8MB Cache) it toomk 36 seconds to complete the scan.

I then scanned it on a USB Western Digital Hard Drive (7200 RPM 8MB Cache) It took 60 seconds.

Why did it take longer on the USB Drive?

Because it's USB does it happen slower or something?

The volume is not heavily fragmented either.

I wish my USB would only be half the speed of the IDE bus.

  6. Slower interface, the drive is being choked by the USB.

    SATA 150Mb Speed
PATA (IDE) 133 Maxtor drives or 100 WD and most MB controllers Speed
    USB 2.0 55MB Speed
USB1.1 for drives, forget about it!

So your times are about right.
    Cheers
