  1. Hi,

I have some avi movies that have two audio streams, these play at the same time and are different languages. I can play the movie using media player classic and choose which channel i want to listen from.

But i cannot seem to find any tutorials or guides regarding extracting two audio streams... I would like to burn these movies to DVD at some point.

If any one knows the solution or the right direction i would be most grateful.

    Regards.

You can do it using VirtualDubMod or AVIMuxGUI.

  3. Yes use VirtualDubMod. Open the file. Go to Streams > Streams List. You will see the audio list contained in the file. Select the audio and click demux. This will extract the audio to a separate file. Repeat for other streams.

  4. Thanks , i shall give that a go.

O, if i convert the avi or rmvb file to dvd compliant mpeg, without extracting and choosing the audio stream i want, would the channels still be there?

As in, can i still be able to choose the audio stream through the "left/right" button on the remote? Then i don't have to extract and mux it again....

unlikely.. what you would need to do is extract each audio track, convert it to dvd spec, and then author with a program that allows for more than one audio track (dvd lab, not TDA)

Are you sure they're actually 2 separate streams (better), and not just the Left & Right channels of 1 stream (worse, more common)?

You could try AVIinfo or GSpot, but I'm not sure they support multiple audio streams.

Maybe AVIMux or AVIMuxGUI (you wouldn't have to actually mux anything, just open them up to see what's inside)

  9. AVI-Mux GUI:

    Input mpg file.
    I got audio: mpeg 1 layer 2 (VBR, bad: 16407, 743 MByte)
nothing in the language code. -it prob does not recognise it? (Chinese)

I tried dragging an avi file in but nothing happened...

Find the Mainconcept Stream Switcher (audio streams). It's a good thing to have around anyway. If you open an AVI (w multiple streams) in WMP or MediaPlayerClassic or something similar, you would use that controller to switch the streams. If it didn't switch streams that way, then most likely it's because you only have 1 stream.

I'll check around and see if there are other more obviously helpful tools...

edit: Actually, that should be Moonlight Odio Dekoda or Morgan Stream swticher...

  11. thanks Scott, you are very hepful.

I always use Media Player Classic to play those sorts of movies. I go into the Play menu and then Audio and choose the channels there.

So this means i got two streams? So i can do what sanjayk suggested with VirtualDubMod?

Yes use VirtualDubMod. Open the file. Go to Streams > Streams List. You will see the audio list contained in the file. Select the audio and click demux. This will extract the audio to a separate file. Repeat for other streams.
Unless there is an easier way?

What sanjayk suggested is fine if you were wanting to get separate files saved in order to re-work them or something. What I suggested is simply for playing; that's what I thought you wanted to do.

    OK...

I spent some time creating my own dual stream audio, just so I would know I have a correct type of file.

    Tested it in:
    VirtualDub--uses only 1st audio stream
VirtualDubMod--uses whichever stream is at top (can rearrange); still for export purposes only
GSpot--sees both (actually up to 4--that's what those numbered boxes are) streams and clicking on the numbered box of your choice will give you properties of that stream
WinMediaPlayer 6.4, 7+--Without Morgan Stream switcher, will play both streams mixed together, with swticher, can choose which stream to hear
MPClassic--Allows you to choose which stream to hear [Play|Audio| check Movie/Audio1 or Movie/Audio2]

Get AVIMux v0.4 (not AVIMuxGUI). It'll allow you to mux and demux a number of audio, video, and subtitle streams. Not the best UI, but it works great!

    HTH,

contact real networks incorporated because beside them almost nobody else is using such sick format... not in the digital video film world anyway.

mplayer cen demux/decode audio streams from rmvb files, however I don't think rmvb supports multiple audio streams other than using scripting and external audio streams.
