  1. I have an old recording from a church with a very annoying noise (I think there were microphones hanging from the roof) that I haven't been able to remove so far. I checked the file in Sound Forges Spectrum Analysis (screen shot attached) and there is a repetitive peak that comes every 100 Hz. I've never seen this kind of noise and wonder anyone know how I can remove it? Perhaps there's some "special" plugin to eliminate it?

Do you live in Europe by any chance ? It could be 50Hz hum. I believe there is a filter in Soundforge to remove 50Hz (and 60hz for the US) hum. Just an idea.

  3. I tried that but it didn't work. I think this is something else and I hope there could be some good filter for it.

I am not convinced that the peaks in your diagram are the noise you are trying to remove. They look suspiciously like the harmonics from a pipe organ (http://www.pykett.org.uk/how_the_flue_pipe_speaks.htm).

Is there organ music in the audio sample? If not, can you describe the annoying sound? Is it like a buzz, hum, static?

Probably a long shot, but Audacity has a programmable noise filter. You take a sample and use that to kill the noise. Sometimes works, also have had it kill the whole audio track. There are a couple of other filters there that might help, also. Anyway, the program is free, might try it.

  6. This is what it sounds like: noise.mp3

tdan: I'm sure it's not a pipe organ because it's there many times in the same recording but with different level (and it don't sounds lika a pipe organ).

redwudz: I tried the software but it didn't work very well. I've also tried to remove it in Sound Forge but with no succes.

    Thanks,

Good luck on that one. Tried it through various programs and filters. It covers too much of the audio spectrum to eliminate.

  8. Hmm, I was afraid of that too. Thanks anyway.
