  1. hi i just bought a ATI all in wonder 9200 card. and it came with studio version 8. now the only reason i got it was to convert over my 8mm home video tapes and my vhs. what is the best possible method/options for me to use to get the best quality i can. for audio and video without lines or skipping. i tried a few times but i dont really know enough about it yet, i captured a 25 min show and it took about 1GB of space, is it suppose to take that much space?? in the end i want to burn these videos on dvd how would i go about doing that, make it like a vcd and use mpegs?

    thanks for any help

  2. Whoo boy, I could have written this 18 months ago. Pick a short sample of your favorite vhs, buy some good quality dvd-rw's and dive in, and be prepared to be disappointed a few times. Read some guides like these https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=9;45#9;45 to learn the language.

I had a lot of problems using Studio 8 for capturing-all-the-way-through-burning. Most people here use different programs for different parts of the process.

  4. Yes, video needs lots of free drive space. Contiguous free space is of utmost importance. Most pref. a separate drive that can be cleared and defragged often.

1GB per hour looks correct when you capture full CCIR 601 for about 2 hours per DVD5 DVD-R Disc
