  1. I am still trying to convert transport streams into high quality divx/xvid files. I can get it does at least one pass in virtualdub mpeg, but the audio is off, but I can keep a big size ie: 720p or 1080i. On the other hand, I threw it into dr divx, it maxes the size out at 720x400, but the audio is in sync with keeping the ac3 and converting it to mp3. Anyone know of a filter I can use in virtualdub that will delay the video to catch the audio. I see this type of thing like interleaving, but couldn't get that to do it for me. Any suggestions?

P.S. the mpegs that are straight from HDTVtoMPEG2 are in sync to begin with as well.

I've been testing out various methods of doing just that, and I agree the sync can be off at times. The way that has worked the best for me (so far) is:

The latest Beta of Dgmpgdec allows you to demux both the audio AND video.

    http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec130b4.zip

When it demuxes the audio, you'll have a file called something like:

    dg AC3 T01 2_0ch 384Kbps DELAY -380ms.ac3

Load the file into AC3 Delay Corrector http://farmi007.bei.t-online.de - It reads the file name and automatically enters the delay amount. You will then create a new, time corrected AC3 file that will be easy to Mux back into the XVID file.

  3. ok, I feel dumb asking this, but what program do you suggest to mux the 2 files back together?

You can do it in VirtualDubMod Under Streams--->StreamList--->Add, or you can use AviMuxGui, which is pretty self explanatory.

  5. I did give avimuxgui a try, but it won't accept the .m2v file (mpeg), but I didn't realize virtualdubmod would take an mpeg, that will work for me. Now if I don't want to keep the audio bitrate at 384, but still want to keep the 6 channels (ac3) how can I just lower the bitrate?

  6. This is great, it worked, well at least on the little sample short clip I did, now to get the 2nd pass to work, but thanks for all the help. and I will look for the audio thing tomorrow.

Ah, I see where I'm not explaining things completely. ReMux the NEW audio and New Xvid video AFTER you convert the .M2V file to AVI. AviMuxGui will work that way.

BTW, video-wise, get ready to crank up the bit rate on DivX/Xvid if you're encoding at 1280x720 . I found 4000 to be the lowest rate without noticeable artifacts. The AVI ends up being around 1/8th the size of the HD Mpeg2.

  8. oh man, duhh, it is late, yeah, but I can just mux it straight into the final product with virtualdubmod, but I can only get the 1 pass to work with both xvid and divx and I can't find where to resize with xvid, I don't think my computer can keep up with playing the full 1920x1080 in divx/xvid form and have been downsizing to 1280x720 with the divx codec. Is there something special I have to do in virtualdubmod and the divx codec section for the second pass, I mean it works just fine in dr divx, but I can't have the high res as mentioned before.

I'm too impatient to do 2 passes, so see above. Around 4000 kbs for 1280x720 seems to give good results.
