  1. I finally figured out how to Cross-fade to black and fade out sound after hours of playing around. I found out I was doing it correctly, but I had to create a video file in order to view it with the changes I made. When I created the file though, it has a red X over it. I can't figure out how to remove it. I thought maybe trying to save it as an MPEG or converting the AVI into an MPEG would make it a good file, but I get an error that says Failed to Open MPEG Encoder. What do I need to do?

  3. It was, but I thought it was fixed. I have VideoStudio 7, DVDWorkshop 1 & 2, and MovieFactory 2. I can't seem to accomplish what I want. I got all the commercials cut out of a show. Now I want to smooth the ends out on the clips.

The X superimposed means you have not rendered that area of the timeline yet. Render and it'll disappear.

  5. If I have created a video file, doesn't that mean it is rendered? I looked in HELP and in the manual and didn't find anything different to do.

In order to render I place the cursor in the timeline before the first frame

Then I hit play. It can take hours, but when the stupid MEDIA STUDIO program stops playing whatever is on the entire timeline then its rendered.

This is why I never use this program.
Why must you render before viewing?
    anyone know?

  7. "Render" is a fancy way of saying, "I'm going to take hours away from your computer time now, because I have to re-encode everything, with my terribly slow encoder engine, just so you can see that the changes you made aren't what you expected, and make you do it all over again anyhow".
