  1. Pull down the front door and tape it open. There is an inner door which will not want to pull down, but if you do not force it, pull it down from the top and you will be able to see your disk. The disk is free to move when there is no power. Place the unit face down and shaking it a bit will coax the disk to drop out.

    P.S. The kind of component failure you seem to be experiencing is not likely to be affected by brand unless the manufacturer's design causes the part to be stressed. Failure rates amongst the name brands are pretty much the same.

  2. Okay, I've got the front door opened and I can see the disk but it appears to be stuck in there because of something going through the center of the disk...I can't seem to find any way to raise the disk above or below whatever is going through the middle of it....does this make sense to ya?

  3. Can you see the pulley with a belt around it in the drive? If you can get to it and turn it until the laser assembly drops down then you can manually pull the door open.
