I believe there had a website, http://www.cellphonehacks.com/, that had something on it about doing this.

I've never done it but I know some people have. With some phone you can actually do it without having to link it to a computer but usually you have to.

You'll need the link cable to link you phone to you computer. Some can get at RadioShack or CompUsa, if not go to you cell phone provider to get it.

Nokia should be easy. Go here and dld the software. http://www.unlockme.co.uk/downloads.html

As for motorola and Sony Ericsson, you will need a data cable and software to unlock those. They can't be unlocked using the phones keypad like the Nokia's can. Sorry.

you only get 5 attempts with the Nokia via the keys, after that it's cable. I gave up on unlocking mine and just paid someone to unlock it instead

  5. I was going to ask somthing about this to day. Is unlocking a phone mean,it can be used witha nother carrier?what if there is a balance owing on the phone does unlocking affect this to?

I'm asking because my wife bought a Phone on Ebay and when we went to connect it they said that the Money owing had to be paid.

that's probably a liittle different and they would probably block your phone completely. You may still be able to unblock it for other service providers though, If this doesn't work you could also contact them and say you are the new owner of the phone and give them the details of the person you bought it off. It may also depend on the phone's history though

If it is a phone from the same carrier, you should be able to just switchout your SIM card.

I'm also wanting to know exactly what does "unlocking" a phone mean?

A phone is "locked" so that it can only be used on that service providers' network. So a Cingular phone isn't meant to be used on T-Mobile or any other GSM carrier unless it is unlocked.

  11. Does Still need to be Unlocked if the phone uses a "SIM" card?

    What are you asking?

If your asking whether the phone needs to be unlocked if it uses a SIM card the answer is yes. Once the phone's unlocked you could take a T-mobile SIM and put it in a Cingular phone and the Cingular phone would then recognize the T-mobile network.
