  1. Hope someone can help, i am having major problems trying to convert a divx movie to mpeg 2 so i can play it on my standalone dvd player
i have tried winpg video convertor, blaze media pro 5, and a couple of other programs the most sucess i have had was a dvd file with green vertical bands running down the image, i am fairly computer literate but trying to convert these files is really trying my patience, i am also trying to convert rm files and i have sound sync problems. any help?

  2. Thanks for the info......
One last attempt to create a jpeg 2 file works!!!, just tried a new prog called MPEG ENCODER and it has given me a mpeg file, great news, dont know why the other progs dont work? but never mind......

Now am i right in thinking i need to reauthour this file so i can make dvd in clone dvd ???

Its not simple this game and it takes soooo long, it took best part of 3 hrs to convert a 1 & 1/2 hour movie,

Which is the best prog to use for reauthouring?

(re)authorung is "best" (least effort compared to end product quality) done with TMPGEnc DVD Author. 30 day trial available. Clone DVD is not involved in this process. Neither is DVDShrink - they are for ripping DVD9 to DVD5

  5. Thanks for that i now have tmp authour, but when i load in my mpeg 2 conversion it wont process because of size errors, dont understand this because when i converted the divx file to mpeg2 i did not alter the size, if i redo it it`s not the correct dimensions ?

    Thanks again

Hmm. Back to basics. DVD source material should be 720x576/480 (PAL/NTSC) usually, other resolutions are also available - see "What Is" top left. No matter what resolution you choose, it can be set to be displayed either at 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio.
So if your source is 16:9 or 4:3, just encode to 720x576/480, set the right aspect ratio, and you're done. AVI video is often "more than" wide screen, so you have to letter box it (place the video in the middle vertically, and add black borders top and bottom). How this is done depends on what encoder you use. I prefer to resize in AviSynth or VirtualDub, frameserving to the encoder.

  7. Thanks again for the info , i have now created a new file converted from divx to mpeg2 but when i inport it to tmp author it tells me it cannot process it due to incorrct size, however if convert the divx to mpeg 2 using a size tmp will accept it comes out too high (wrong size for playback) is there another prog that will reauthor at the original size?

What are the dimensions of the DivX? Like I said, you might have to resize the video inside the DVD specs sized frame to keep the correct aspect ratio.

OK, so it's "wider than widescreen", meaning you:
    1) Should encode to 16:9 DVD mpg
    2) Have to letterbox the video (add black borders top & bottom to keep original aspect ratio)
    What encoder are you using?

Sorry, Never used that app. There should be an option to set 4:3 or 16:9 DAR somewhere, and also something like "center image, keep aspect ratio".

Use VSO DivXToDVD to convert AVIs to VOBs. If you don't need menus, you can use DVDshrink to add the VOBs and burn with DVDdecrypter.

Since you now have TMPGEnc DVD Author, you can click the "Source Set Up" button on the top of the page and then select "Add DVD Video".

When you've added all the files you want to burn, click "Create Menu".

Click "Output" to create the new VIDEO_TS folder and when it's finished making the folder, the DVD Writing tool will open and you can burn your DVD or you can choose to burn it at a later date by opening the program and choosing "Write DVD Folder To DVD R/RW"
