  1. Im building a new computer for someone and yesterday i found out the board didnt work well before i left frys today i made them test the new board (and the brand new chip) that i bought before i left the store and they claim it worked. Well got home and it doesnt work. I think something might be shorting it out but dont know what. The thing is that i build a lot of computers and i dont know what the hell could be doing it.... can anyone help me. I really need to know the answer to this quickly because i am late on having this done for the person that asked for it.

Try a different PS, even if you think it's good.

Leebo is on to something. Different power supply.

I have an ECS mobo. Not sexy, but it works fine. You're certain Frys didn't give you a returned unit? Do you have enough screw posts installed so the mobo doesn't short on the case ?

  7. ok this is the deal.... went from to somwhere else and bought another board today except i didnt place it in the casing i just added the mem, video card and this the button where i could cut power on. Well again power came on (fan on processer and video card came on) but never brought anything up on the screen and no beeps. Well i pluged another video card and differnt stick of memory in it and it still didnt come up.
So i dont know if the board blew out again or what but dont think its processer because thats a brand new one that i replaced from the other one. Now just reminding everybody that everything is brand new out of the box but it is a cheap case that i bought.

there's only 6 major components to make a puter work:

cpu, motherboard, ram, vid card, hdd, and psu...that's all you should need to make a puter run

you've pretty much eliminated that it's a mobo prob....
not the hdd...bios boots up and u would get some sort of screen...
you said u used another vid card(im guessing this one has been proven to work before?)..so assuming u know the vid card is good. it's not that.

well that leaves 3 things...well 4 if you count user error :P j/k

ram..this "other stick", has it been proven to work before?
cpu...this could very well be your prob...
    psu...possibility..testers are cheap.

    well good luck.

btw...usuing a mobo and components outside the case...BAD IDEA

    I dis-agree.

It's done all the time to eliminate the possibility of a short in the case.

Anyway, like I said, Power supply.

What about a keyboard? Have you tried removing the battery and
    clearing the CMOS?

He's tried two or three MB's. How do you come up with a faulty CMOS battery?

This is more proof that if you put 10 computer experts in a room and ask them to troubleshoot a problem, you'll get 10 different answers.
