  1. Hi I'm looking for some help if poss.

I'm having probs playing back some DVDs on the PC although they play fine on standalone DVD player. There is no audio.

When I've put them through G spot it says that the audio is LPCM.

Problem is I don't know how to fix it and can't make head nor tail of what comes up when I go into Google.

Can anyone help me find an appropriate codec or help me fix please?

    Thank you for reading

LPCM is just a WAV file (uncompressed), and AFAIK, all WAV files should play without issues on PCs.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I'm not sure where I go from now then as it definitely will not play on my PC but does on the standalone.

    Mmhh - I'm stuck

Actually, LPCM is the RAW headerless data. It can be wrapped/headed as WAV or AIFF, etc. Nevertheless, you should have no trouble ever playing (Headered) 16bit/48kHz/Stereo/LPCM files on any modern PC/Mac--as long as there are no pipeline bottlenecks (e.g. tacked onto HDvideo), or too many processes. Sounds like somethings wrong with your DVD decoder/player app.

  5. Thanks Scott for bothering to reply. Much appreciated.

If I get it sorted I'll let you know for sure what the prob was.

    Hi HMFC,

I had the exact same problem as you once.

It turned out to be the audio out of my DVD ROM wasn't connected to the audio in on my motherboard.

Or, it might be that (if you've more than one DVD drive) the one your using doesn't have the audio output hooked up.

You never know. Anyway, I hope it's something as simple as that...

That would be the case if you were trying to play AudioCD's in those drives, but not DVD's.
AudioCD decoding is done in hardware in the CDROM drive (as it's simple algorithms) and sent out via the analog jack(s) on the back of the drive, as well as the mini-headphone jack at the front (on those models that have 'em).
DVD audio decoding is done in software or, rarely, hardware cards, much further down the line. The disc's databytes are sent to RAM-->DVDPlayer/Navigation-->StreamDemuxer-->Audio(as well as Video)Decoder-->OS Mixer-->Soundcard Output. (That it roughly)
You'll note that it's not possible to have DVD audio come out of the headphone jack--try it.

Could be DTS tracks and your DVD player app doesn't support it...

Get DVDDecrypter. It'll tell you # of and what type of streams there are and what formats. Look in "Stream Processing".

  11. Ah ha - ran the disc through DVD Decrypter and its LPCM 2 channel. Tried the disc through Windows Media Player (I usually use Real One) and it works perfectly. Obviously its a Realone issue then.

    Many many thanks people.

If you run a date through WomanDeCrypter v1.0, I wonder what type of protection it'll remove? 8)

    Copy protection?

  14. No it couldn't be copy protection because it was family holiday videos. I'd put them on tape years ago and thanks to the advent of PCs and DVD Recorders I managed to get them on to disc but couldn't play the damn things on my PC.

Now resolved. Yee haa. Also means I can do copies for the rest of the family easily and quickly.

Sorry, I was trying to make a stupid double-entendre. "Women" / "Copy protection"...Ok, time for me to stop. Wasn't that funny.

I got it. Thought it was quite good actually, if that's any solace...
