    The file in question belongs to divx codec snipper reports it as broken
    So my question is How do I go about fixing this broken codec or ax

    You may already have more than one codec installed. Just delete the bad/corrupt codec.

    If you find something is not operational, you can then go and install/reinstall the codec that is missing/not functional.
