My wife wants me to extract the song film clips from her Dirty Dancing DVD and add subtitles of the lyrics.
Can someone point me to soume guides that might be of use ?

    Thanks.

  2. Try SubtitleWorkshop for the subs and Txt2Sup to convert the subs.

here is a link for these tools https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/197950.php

    I've hit a problem.

I did the subs up in SubWorkshop and output an srt file.
Opened the srt in Txt2Sup and converted it to a sup file.
I used DVDDecrypter to seperate the video and audio streams from the original VOB.
In IFOEdit I loaded the a/v streams then added the generated sup file made by txt2sup and authored the DVD.

I went into Shrink and loaded the DVD file but it said no sub streams were present. Decrypter also said no subs were present. I opened the IFO in Chapter Extractor and it said there was a sub stream present.

What have I done wrong ?

The original VOB that I'm adding subs to didn't have any subs to start with.

    Thanks

There must be a dozen or more ways to do what you want. Stormin Norman has shown a good one. I've done that with Yannis' (spelling?) DVD - a show in Greece at the Parthenon.
Please, you can try this (a little tricky but it works):
    1.DVD Decrypter = backup;
    2.Demux VOBs with TMPGEnc = AC3 and MPEG2.
3.Get the subs with Subrip (skip this step since you're gonna make your subs yourself).
    4.DVD Architect, drop both MPEG2 and AC-3
5.Set subs>Choose language>type what you want (much easier than Subtitle workshop)
    6.Re-author and burn your DVD.
Only one disadvantage: TMPGEnc and DVDA are not freeware.
Note: Try Arial 22, Bold, Outline. It's an excellent size.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Your first step is using Decrypter just for backup. Couldn't Decrypter also be use to demux at the same time as it's doing the backup ?

I found Subtitle Workshop to be very easy to use. In fact the whole process was quite easy. Unfortunately this didn't translate into a usable DVD.

Perhaps using Txt2Sup instead of SRT2Sup (shown in the linked guide above) may have caused a problem. I'm not sure how txt2sup and srt2sup differ.

There is probably a simple setting I'm not selecting somewhere in the process that's causing the grief.
