  1. Is there any portable dvd player, a clamshell with a screen, that plays mpeg and other types of raw media files? Something portable with some of the capabilities of the Philips 642?

  2. Well all DVD players do MPEG, you mean MPEG4 since you mentioned DVP642.

I've got my eye on this unit but waiting to hear feedback.
    It's like a discman that does mpeg4 and mp3 (and DVD's)

The photos on the RJTech site and Newegg's are different and the people at RJTech told me things that were just plain wrong or made up so I don't trust them. RJTech told me it has a year warranty and LED display - but the Newegg shows LCD and if you comb the RJTech site they claim only a 90 day warranty on their hardware.

No more 90 day warranties for me after my DVP642 died at six months

RJTech also claimed they are going to add GMC and QPEL "later via update" but I highly doubt that - we need to know more about what chipset it uses before that can be believed.

  3. I don't think it's true that all set top DVD players do raw MPEG files.
