When i read posts i see programs highlighted in red and when i go to download them or check them out i find out they will not work on a Mac because they are IBM/PC based programs.
My question is there anyway to add a line that says what OS system they work for in the tools description?
I know if you look up Mac tools you get Mac tools but when i read posts in the Mac Video Help section i see recommendations for people to use IBM/PC programs sometimes and it doesnt say what OS system they are all for until you start downloading the wrong type of file.
Example one person recommended vcdgear to fix the problem so i checked it out and started to download it until i found it was a IBM/PC program.
This program vcdgear doesnt say what OS it is for.

I'm sorry but I gotta call you on this one.
You mean to tell me you couldn't tell it was a PC program by the following:
1. The VERY OBVIOUS screen shot that shows Windows interface screens?
2. The line on the User Comment that says the following:
Tool version 3.55 using OS WinXP
If you don't know what something is for, you can always WAIT A BIT before downloading and ask the simple question:
"will this cause me any problems on Mac OS X?"
that will usually get you a response back:
"Sorry dude, this is for a PC only"
or
"dude, you will have to use Virtual PC to use this program".
But I mean come on...The SCREENSHOTS were FRICKIN' obvious..."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

When I'm not here, Where can I be found?

No the screen shots are not obvious because some programs like VLC are for both and it shows a PC screen shot.
So put your money where your mouth is and say "The SCREENSHOTS were FRICKIN' obvious...Terryj"
And if someone would have never made a comment it wouldnt have anything saying what OS it was for except the screen shot.
I call you on this one terryj and cant you post in a nicer manner?Mark V

Thank you.Mark V

You want me to apologize because you didn't read?
You want the mods to label every program in big letters
when you click on a link and make it say "Stop!
Before you download this, THIS is for this OS?"
I mean c'mon now Mark REALLY.... Cmon pal,
asking how to use the program sure, we'll help you.
But, if you can't even take the time to read TWO VERY OBVIOUS
POINTS that say it was....Granted I'll give you the VLC thing,
but even then it has user comments which tell you its
for BOTH platforms!
AND oh, that's right I almost forgot...When you clikced on the link that says
Main Site and Download
And you go there to the VCDGear website, it tells you
which version is for Mac OSX and which is for WinXP.
HOW DID YOU MISS THAT?
I'll give you a hint.....
Reading IS Fundamental.............MARK.
next you'll want the mods to come to your house and type in your
response to me....c'mon man....<lol!> -
In all seriousness though Mark,
I'm was very PO'd by the fact that
you had the original nerve to ask
the Mods to do something that,
I'm sorry, is out of their hands,
and puts it squarely in yours.
The mods can't be responisble because you didn't take the time to read THROUGHLY the VCDGear Main site's information on what program will work on your OS,
before Downloading it, installing it, and
"wasting time"....
Coming here and saying " I wasted all this time
because I didn't know what OS this program was for"
when it clearly, CLEARLY, marked on the main site
and download link, and had you read it,
makes me embarrassed for you man.
I mean, seriously, what did you expect someone to
do/say to a posting like that?!?"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

There are times when I wonder if people take the time to do searches or read up before they ask their questions. Five year olds ask their parents all their questions because they don't have the resources or ability to understand and research on their own. Am I calling you all five year olds? No, but there are times the behavior of certain posters here reminds me of one.
I think it may be time to put together an official FAQ document for us here:
How do I convert an AVI to DVD?
How do I convert PAL to NTSC?
How do I capture my VHS tapes?
Why is the audio in my video out of synch?
How do I create a VIDEO_TS folder to burn onto DVD?
How do I join together mpegs?
How do I split a DVD across two single layer DVDs.
What is a DivX/Xvid/3ivX/MP4?
How do I edit an MPEG?
How do I import into iMovie?
Does this smell funny to you?
How do I remove menus and extras from DVDs?
How do I create menus in DVDs?
How do I capture still photos from a DVD?
How do I rip single scenes and place them into my own movies?
etc. -
We wouldnt need a forum to post questions if we all searched because i am sure most questions have been answered allready.
Questions are asked not for being too lazy to look for themselves but to mingle with other members, it adds humanity to the forum.
Would you just rather just click a button for your answers all of the time or interact with a human on the subject? I would like to do both.Mark V

If the Mods thought it'd be a good idea, I wouldn't mind contributing to a FAQ. I could use the help of some of the other more experienced users in this forum however.

I would love to help but i am not that smart with conversions.

I'd be willing to help PJ with the FAQ, if the mods
say go for it...
And Mark, I wasn't trying to be rude, but like PJ said,
There are times when I wonder if people take the time to do searches or read up before they ask their questions [or post].
But enough, If a FAQ wil help I'll contribute,
as much as i possibly can,
but you have to promise to READ it.

I will read it.

Also, if you read about the tool in HERE ONLY, you'll get the mac programs 99% of the time, if you use other forums, you'll get Winblows progs as well. The mods are pretty good about tossing PC people outta here who offer PC progs to mac peeps trying to get help.
and really, I always check the company website before I download anything, if you're on a mac, you KNOW that 90% of the stuff out there is for the un-evolved members of the computing world (ie, PC users)
