when downloading firmware updates should i start with the first one and download them all i know there is 3 offical ones..

or should i just get the latest version??

i am having lockups everynow and then when trying to copy a dvd to the HDD will a firmware update solve this problem??

other than the lockup this dvd recorder kicks ass i see there's an option to defrag the HDD too!!

  2. kenmasters83,

You normally only need to use the latest update. Most of the time, the update is both for the system and drive. The latest update is just a system update so you will want to first update with the most recent system/drive update to get the latest drive update, then update with the newest system update. These are the files you need:

    1. Update with 1193 RevA (on my site) first. This is the most current system/drive update.
    2. Update with 1193 RevB Hacked (on my site) second. This is the newest system update w/ hacks for LP 3-hour mode, Region Free and disables MacroVision.

    Guitarman,
Is 1193a the same update that is on the ilo site released March 7th? I'm just wondering before I use 1193b or 1193a if I should use the one from ilo first.

The 1193a is not available on ILO's site. There current file is 1193RevB. They always disable the link to the older firmware when they post a new one. This was the main reason for starting my site. Some of the new firmware stunk and there was no way to get the earlier firmware to do a downgrade. If you look on their page, there is an earlier 1193 from 1/17/05 that you can't get to anymore. The problem with that is, the newer 1193 is only a system update. The older 1193 was both a system and drive update. So, if you bought your HD04 after the new firmware came out, you would not be able to get the advantages of the drive part of the earlier update. This is why, on my site, they are all there.

If the firmware on your recorder is earlier than 1193, you will want to update with 1193RevA first. You do not need to use the hacked version for this part. After updating with 1193RevA to get the drive update, update with the hacked version of 1193RevB. This will get the recorder up to date.

To find your current firmware, go to the setup screen and look at the serial number. xxxx-xxxx-0193-xxxx The third set of numbers is the firmware version.

There is another firmware upgrade coming in the next week or two that is suppose to fix the problem with green tinting and CD audio playback, so keep an eye out for it. It will be hacked and posted as soon as it is released.

    Good luck
