  1. I captured a WMV with Beyond TV. Ordinarily, I convert to AVI and do all sorts of weird things with VirtualDub (and other tools) before burning it to a DVD. However, I thought I'd try going straight to DVD. So I cranked up Nero Vision Express, pulled in the WMV, trimmed the fat off the beginning and end, and processed it. It looked fine in Nero's preview window (before I started the processing), but the resulting DVD has the audio fine and the video running WAY fast (it's a 2 hour plus movie, and the video is done in less than 6 minutes). Haven't done the math, but it almost seems like for input, it only grabbed one frame per sec for video.

Any idea what's going on here?

  2. C'mon guys, I've got a record of 75 views and no replies here. This one is only at 37. Some more folks need to read it and not reply. 8)

I haven't had any luck using WMV files with Nero either. The audio would be fine but the video would be jerky. I just stick with converting the WMV files to AVi, like you said you normally do.

If your goal is DVD, why are you TV capping to WMV?

My only guess is you want to save HDD space? Why compress twice?
Unless you have a proven technique you are following, I would expect lower quality DVD result and many audio sync and video levels problems.

Normally one would cap to MPeg2 in a supported DVD format.

The two options in Beyond TV are WMV and MPEG-2, the latter of which is beyond the bounds of my capture card and/or my computer (i.e. the video is unwatchable).

Good point, but unfortunately not applicable.

Guess, I'm outta luck. C'est la vie.

Have you attempted to reduce compression on the MPeg captures?
Try 8,000Kbps, PCM audio. What is your capture card?

Next best technique is to capture without compression but that takes huge disk space and takes ages to render.

If you have a slow PC, get a capture card with a hardware Mpeg encoder.

  7. Do you try converting WMV to MPEG2 with TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress?

Only fiddled with it a bit -- maybe I'll try again. I have a WinTV Go.

Not in the financial cards right now. But maybe I'll stick it on my Christmas wish list.
