You can only "use" it when authoring DVD's.
If you simply want to convert other audio to AC3 (for whatever reason) get ffmpeggui.Cheers, Jim

Change the files to wav with a sound editor such as goldwave or audacity and the go to program files/Pegasys Inc/TMPGEnc Sound Player and open TMPGEncSoundPlayer.exe and click on encode and choose dolby digital (ac3) encode/decode and drag the wav files to the left side of the screen and click on encode.
You can go into settings to change to bitrate to what you want. You dont need to use tmpg dvd author to use the tmpgenc ac3 encoding plugin.I think, therefore i am a hamster. -
I don't use this particular AC-3 plug-in (I have another "better" method with very "expensive" software) but I am curious as to what choices you have when using this AC-3 plug-in?
I guess you can choose the bitrate but do you have any other options?
BTW for a standard 2 channel PCM WAV audio file an AC-3 bitrate of 256kbps is usually "best".
I also suggest you "normalize" the PCM WAV audio file first ... before converting to AC-3 format.

With the plugin you can also use it to encode to ogg and use it as a equalizer/player with a playlist. In the tmpgenc dvd author environmental settings you can set the plugin to encode wav and mp2 automatically to ac3.

Apparently he didn't follow my link on that or didn't want to be bothered with it. Go figure
