The Canopus ADVC-100 outputs analog. Other than that, are these units the same?
Seems to me they are...but better double check.
    Thanks

I was under the impression that the Canopus ADVC-100/110 handle "audio lock" better than the ADVC-50/55 but this is based on things I have read here not from personal use so I am not 100% on that.

You might also want to look into the DataVideo DAC-100 as it is pretty much the same as the Canopus ADVC-100 but is cheaper and totally ignores copy protection as a default whereas the ADVC-100 needs a "trick" performed to ignore copy protection ... and said trick doesn't always work from what I hear. I don't think the other Canopus models (the 110 and the 50/55) can be made to ignore copy protection.

Yes...I checked out the DAC-100 and read all the reviews I could. I noticed that many liked the colors better in the DAC-100 but a lot of people mentioned the great quality of the ADVC-100. Also, it was mentioned that the DAC-100 doesn't handle dirty sources as well as the ADVC-100.
    Toss up I guess...
You may want to try your DAC-100 out on the new macrovision anti-copy code to see if it works.
    Same with the ADVC-100...
We would all like to know the outcome.
    Thanks

PS - I read to disable macrovision on the ADVC-50, you take off the #6 jumper...but now we need new results with the "new" macrovision.

AFAIK the only definitive difference between the 50, 55, 100 and 110 is that the 100 & 110 units can output analog. AFAIK the 50 & 55 can't.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  6. All the Canopus converters use the same DV hardware conversion chip - the 50 and 55 don't have analogue out, but have the same A/D conversion quality.

In theory the 55 doesn't support locked audio (the 50 does) but the word from Canopus tech support is that this is just a 'technicality' regarding the actual 'locked audio' spec, and that in practice the audio remains in sync, just like the other converters.
