  1. Been looking on these forums and google and could not find anything about the above problem. After digging through some knowledgebases I found the fix, and just wanted to submit it here for anyone who does a future search:

    PROBLEM:
Recordnow max fails to start and displays a white box with no text and just a red X.

    FIX:
A specific DLL needs to be registered.

    1) Click on "Start,"
    2) Select "Run."
    3) In the "Open," box type: "regsvr32 msxml3.dll" and click "OK."

    *shrug*

I see no good use for RecordNOW, but since some people seem to like it, that's good to know.

May I ask you though, what compelling need there is for RecordNow? I don't understand how Sonic still sells it, since there are other cheaper tools which do everything it does better and easier.

  7. Never heard of that problem, more details please.

Yeah, RecordNow is overpriced, unless you get it with a burner. Retail pricing is puzzling, I got a BenQ with RecordNow for just slightly more than RecordNow retail. By the same token, Nero's overpriced.

Anyway, RN doesn't have the capabilities Nero does, but it's smaller, doesn't monkey with other apps, and has no bugs I know of. Nor do you have to constantly update and patch. Depends on what you need I suppose. I gave Nero the boot and am using RN for the present.

Prassi Ones looks good, I'm seriously thinking of getting that.

Well Prassi PrimoDVD is what became RecordNow.

I hand it to Prassi - they were pioneers in the field. RecordNow (and PrimoDVD before it) was the ONLY program to use for PS2 DVD burning back when 2.4x burners were the hot ticket (2+ years back).

I can see the smallness aspect, although I'd argue that the Sonic version is just as system-intrusive as Nero, and liable as not on any specific build to include spyware (Sonic does have a reputation after all).

Yeah, perhaps just a matter of differing results on individual machines. Nero annoyed me overall, but Sonic update manager also annoys me with spam. I keep hoping they'll notify me about a worthwhile update. Isn't it just v7.3 that actually calls home with info on your system? Bleh.

It was only a matter of time before Sonic introduced this into RecordNow. The other products are like that.
