Has anyone ever got Windows Media Server to work over http on a IIS6 server?

I've read the MS technet articles and they make no sense at all. I can view it on my internallan but anyone outside it cannot. It says locating media then stops.

After all the messing with teh MS articles, now I cannot view it from my internal LAN either.

I have the encoder running on my PC hosting it via port 8080 to the server. The server is 2003 with IIS6 hosting a web site and media server. I want to stream it over port 80 since my work blocks everythign but 80.

Anyone ever get this cludgy thing to work?

  2. just link to it using mms://mymovie.WMV and it will automatically stream it.....
Or use Dreamweave and add in the movie as an plugin and then it will start it when it opens up a webpage.....

I can't. MMS does not use port 80 over http. Port 80 http is the ONLY option I have to view the files. The MS technet articles show you have to get MMS and IIS to work together on port 80 but there are a few vague parts in the isntructions and it does not work.

    Thanks!

My XP Pro workstation runs teh Encoder and offers it up as http://pcname:8080.

The Windows Media Server running on my IIS6 server creates a publishing point pointing to the http://pcname:8080 which works fine. I was able to browse it internally using the 1755 ports I beleive. Anything outside thjrough the internet could not view it since I don't have the other ports open.

Now that I've put it all back from the articles, the internal viewing does nto work anymore. Now I'm going backwards!

Is there a way to do all the work on the workstation and use the IIS6 of the server to stream it over http via port 80?
