Figure it's unlikely but worth asking anyway.
Thanks!

Perhaps call them? I doubt sales/support would know.
If you have a box with firewire perhaps you could import it into Premeire and see how big it is,unless you're able to set resolution to input.I don't know I've never tried it before.
I can tell you the bit rate for most everything except hd channels is pretty low or the box is a horrid encoder.
Sorry I don't know much.you'll win in time -
I'm guessing here, but if it's NTSC, then it might be 720x480 @ 29.97fps.

You didn't ID your country or cable system. Let's assume US or Canada.
In general for digital cable channels, MPeg2 resolution* and bitrate can vary by channel locally. On a system like Comcast, talking head channels are compressed more, premium channels like HBO are compressed less. You are probably capturing after D/A and NTSC encoding unless you have a HDTV box. HDTV regardless of original format, is converted to 1920x1080 interlace by most HD cable boxes since most home TV sets cannot accept 720p. HDMI digital connections may offer 1080i, 720p, 480p depending on the box.
Analog stations fit in 6MHz bandwidth channels with guardbands similar to over the air NTSC. Since the TV channel is normally received over the air, video bandwitdth would be the normal 4.2MHz NTSC as transmitted. 4 to 8 digital MPeg2 channels are compressed and modulated into each 6MHz analog RF channel.
* my best guess on digital MPeg2 channel resolution would be 352-720x480. I wouldn't be suprised if they topped out at 640x480. -
i have time warner digital cable..
the resolution has got to be 720x480 on the digital channels like hbo and cinemax and ahowtime
i know one thing digital cable true digital channels are 2x the resolution of anything dishnetwork an directv is throwing out..
my jaw hit the floor when i compared 2 captures from digital cable's toondisney and directv"s toondisney
there was big difference the directv version look a tad blockier and lowish resolution compared to the digital cable version..
and on high definition tv's you can see what i am talking about.. -
I have Cablevision's iO digital cable in Long Island, NY.
For analog channels, 352x480 should be fine, correct? -
if the movie or show your recording is longer than 2 hours it sure is quite good to use.

Highest quoted res I have seen on Non-HD channels was something like 540x480.
Note that higher res with inadequate bitrate may well look worse than lower res with appropriate bitrate.
Have capped both Time-warner analog and digital cable, and now DirecTV sat, other than more bitrate starvation on sat, I cannot determine a resolution difference on my 27" TV, or 19" PC monitor.
