  1. Why is it that i cant read a dvd backup in the same drive i backed up the original one. But i can view the dvd in the player without a problem

Might it be the media type? Im using dvd+r

Im planning to do a copy from a backup, do someone know how to correct the problem?

    Yes, switch to DVD-R's.

Apple's DVD Player software is coded
    to not recognize DVD+R discs.
This has been covered numerous times
    on Apple's own support forums.

if you continue to use DVD+R's, you might have to switch to VLC,
and play it by navigating onto the disc and opening the VIDEO_TS folder.

In my case that's inaccurate information (or I'm lucky ). To double-check, I just ran a couple tests:

DVD Player (version 4.0; OS X 10.3.8; iMac G5) has no trouble playing a movie I created with iMovie and burned to a Ritek DVD+R with iDVD a couple weeks ago. It also plays a DVD+R backup of a DVD extras disk burned (on my eMac) with Toast. Standard Apple drives: Matshita UJ-825 (lame) in the iMac; Pioneer DVR-107D (good) in the eMac.

    I normally use DVD-R/RW, though.

Yup, your definitely in the minority:

iMac G5's have the limitation removed from them
( also known as Apple's "crippleware") that
    prevents
earlier mac models ( ie G4 based Macs)
    from burning/reading to DVD+Rs.

apple removed the stipulation starting with the -107 models
it shipped in machines, so it's no surprise that your emac
    is also blessed.

    count yourself lucky.

I can't really follow what that Apple Discussions thread is supposed to be saying so I'll just be satisfied that the media I'm using is compatible (enough) with my software/systems/burners.
