simple dvd recorder question(s).....

I wanna do this: I have comcast digital cable with the box and all.. I wanna be able to record some of my old favorite nickolodeon tv shows onto dvd, and watch on my standalone dvd player on tv.. possibly make some menus for it with TMPGENC dvd author. Can this be done?! like, taking and hooking up a dvd recorder to my digital tv box and selecting whut tv shows I want to record and it make a dvd of it, that I can put in my dvd drive on my comp and make menus for it? Also, can I choose tv shows that are comming on in about an hour and have it memorize to record it if i'm away? and any opinions on which dvd recorder to buy thats great, and cheap.. The PIONEER 220-S from Walmart.com is $198.76. I just got mine and it seems to be a good unit. I've done some vhs to dvd conversion then used the DVD-RW disc in my pc to create a new menu.

thats alot for me to be cheap lol.. but not really, just looking to get something soon. How hard is it for that pioneer to hook up to a digital box and record shows of digital tv? and can it like be set to record at a certain time?

I haven't used it to time record yet but it is possible and not hard to hook up to your digital cable box. It has VCR+.

You can record from the cable box using line inputs. The Pioneer has recording timers. But if you want to change digital channels for unattended recording you'll need to use the Comcast box's timer programming feature to set the times you want certain channels to be tuned. The Pioneer will record whatever channel the cable box is playing.

The Pioneer also can record any of the analog channels (2-99) that your Comcast cable offers. To do this you must have the coax cable connected to the Pioneer and use the Pioneer's tuner for recording. In other words, the cable box is not needed when you want to record the analog channels.

Yes that is cheap but in my opinion the liteon is not the best recorder. My friend has one and has all sorts of compatibility problems.
