  1. I've searched all over the net and havn't found anything that works.

I tried useing ImTOO MPEG Encoder and waited almost 24 hours to find out that it didn't encode it correctly (basically just a slideshow with garbled sound ).

Has anyone here had any success at encoding Nero MP4 to avi? Would really appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

use nero recode is the easy way ...

but whats the point? you would just be reducing quality ..

why are you using a mpeg encder to encode xvid?

  3. The reason why I want to convert it to avi is because I'm having problems playing a file on my Xbox media center. The file plays fine for about 10 mins and then it starts skipping really bad.

Converting it to xvid/divx would solve this problem as the Xbox has no probs playing these.

There's a program MP4UI that demuxes Nero MP4 files. Then use AVIMUX_GUI to remux as AVI. Be sure to turn off DML support in AVIMUX_GUI. Works on most files I've tried. My Philips 642 will play these as DIVX.

MP4UI is based on mpeg4ip, just really old source that doesn't support AVC. If you want to deal with AVC mp4's then use a current version of mpeg4ip.

As said for an ASP Nero mp4 file. Demux the streams, change the video fourCC from mp4v to XVID or DX50 and then mux.

@wulf109, your philips plays back avi's containing aac audio?

Thanks wulf, that did the trick

It now plays great on my Xbox as a divx. I tried to play it in Windows Media Player and it ran at 1/2 speed, weird. Ran fine in Media Player Classic though.

    Thanks again
