question: i have a divx file (ghosts of mars) that i try to convert to vcd
1. when loading in the windows media player it plays okay
2. saving audio stream to wav file using vdub
3. wav file that plays correctly in media player but...
4. can't be read by (for example) cool edit (causing strange noises)
i suspect a codec or cooledit issue, any suggestions?

What's the sampling rate and resolution of the wav file after the conversion?

solved the problem, it was cooledit! couldn't handle certain types of mp3... acoustica did the job properly, first time cooledit lets me down, well, one learns something new everyday...
the raw extracted sound is reported as a windows pcm 48khz 16bit stereo, but it isn't

... and things get even better, after conversion using acoustica (not saving it, just starting up acoustica, converting, no save and close) now cooledit does the job as well... must be something on the codec side that is not properly handled by either cool edit or windows or... oh what the heck, it works
