Converted avi to dvd using mainconcept.
Extension is mpg file
What to use to conver mpg file to the typical dvd structure (vo, ifo, bup extensions)

You need to "author" this .MPG file. The guides are over on the left-hand side of your screen.

I'd suggest TMPGEnc DVD Author to begin with - it is user-friendly and won't break the bank if you like it!

Thanks Cobra, used the program, burned to a DVD RW and the result is great.
