I unwrap my new DVD+RW and pop it in my DVD Recorder and record some TV.
I take the disc out and stick it in the PC and rip it to the PC.
I can do this all day long. but......
If I write to the disc, or choose erase disc on the PC I can no longer use it in my DVD recorder.
Can anyone tell me why?
THanks

Odds are, you are exceeding burn speed,
as this will make the disc, un-usable...
Especially for those using hacked firmware,
since most burners dont recognize the
original acceptable burn speed...i
speak from experience.. -
But I can still use it back in my PC, so it isnt totally un-useable.
Is theer a way of re-formatting the disc so I can use it again?
I did notice the last time that when I burnt something to the disc for the first time, Nero said it was formattting the disc automatically before it went into burn mode. Could this be the problem?
Back to the speed you mentioned, is there a way of preventing this from happening again?
Many thanks -
One thought occurred to me, I wonder if you are formatting as a Mount Ranier (EasyWrite) disk. According to the InCD manual, if it detects a MRW capable recorder, this option is enabled by default. Check under Options for InCD.

Sorry, I should have been clearer in my original message.
The DVD recorder I have is a standalone one sitting under my TV. It is a MBO DVD Rec 2000 bought in Germany. It is a good DVD-R apart from this little matter.
Any clues? -

Thanks again for replying Safesurfer.
I think I am now in the area of not really knowing what you are going on about. How do I check the In-CD options?
I have looked at the preferences in Nero and there is no mention of In-CD there and it is not in my program menus. I am running Nero 6.6 reloaded.
I do apologise, I know this must be frustrating for you but if you could help a little more then it would be appreciated.
Thank you again -
I would suggest just not erasing the DVD+RW in your PC....let your recorder do that. Are you saying that you can not even reformat the disk in your standalone?
There was a time that MP3 players used Smartmedia cards. Users found that if they wrote MP3 files to the card, the card was rendered unusable in the cameras. The card could not even be reformatted to use. This sounds similar to what is happening to you. There must be something about file structure or header information that your PC places on the disk that makes it uncompatible with your standalone recorder.
Go back to what I first said. Only copy the files over to your PC. Let your standalone do everything else. Use a different DVD+RW for your PC.TANSTAAFL -
Yes I have the same problem and have tried doing a full erase on my computer in addition to trying to erase on my standalone. Since I haven't been able to figure it out, I just keep dedicated discs to solely use in my standalone and keep them away from my pc, seems to do the trick.

If you don't see the icon, I'm not sure if Nero uses it to format discs or not. You can find and run it by opening Windows Explorer and going to C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD and double click on InCDL.exe. Look in the options for the MRW format option.
Another thought is maybe it's something to do with the DVD-VR format. See https://www.videohelp.com/glossary?D#DVD-VR for info."Just another sheep boy, duck call, swan

You don't need InCD to erase a DVD RW disc. (In fact, I advise people to stay the hell away from InCD, DirectCD and all other packet-writing software, but that's another topic for another thread).
If you want to erase the disc, simply use regular Nero (or Nero Express, which is even simpler) to erase. And another thing -- don't confuse erasing with formatting. Erasing is erasing, i.e. making it like a brand new virgin disk with no info on it. And you can do this without even having InCD installed on your computer.
