I have some widescreen material that I'm putting onto DVD. The material has some occasional hardcoded subs that when I view it on the TV, the subs goes off the sides of the screen. Is there a way to keep the subs on the screen and at the same time, keep the widescreen?

In TMPGEnc, the settings I used to convert the AVI to M2V was:

    Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Display
Source Aspect Ratio: 16:9 525 line (NTSC)
Video Arrange Method: Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)

In tmpgenc go to settings/advanced/clip frame/arrange setting and choose center(custom size) and add borders of around 16 pixels to adjust for the overscan.

Do I need to add 16 pixel borders to the height? I'm not sure what I'm doing here. Is this okay:

    Center (custom size)
    736x480

In the Preview, there doesn't seem to be any extra borders though.

If your original size is 720x480 then make it 704x464 in the center(custom size) setting.

The source's size is actually 704x480. So would I need to set it at 688x480? It's anamorphic widescreen. That's why I set the Source Aspect Ratio to 16:9 525 line (NTSC) so TMPGEnc won't read it as 4:3 material.

How did you get 684x464? :P What's wrong with 688x480? Also, if you know anything about Xvid and the decoder lag error in Vdub, do you think you can help me with that too? I didn't bother to create a new thread so the first post of the thread isn't by me. My problem is in my latest post in that thread:

688x464 i meant, when you reduce the size down that way it adds black borders to bring it back to 704x480.You need to subtract 16 pixels from all sides to keep the aspect ratio.

What i do is use nics 4cc changer and change the xvid header to divx, gets rid of that first frame error message.

What do I set the "Description Code" and "Used Codec" to? I selected DIVX and XVID and then tried interchanging them but still it doesn't work. Either the error is still there or the AVI cannot be played.

My source AVI has no errors. It's just that the error shows up whenever I open the AVS script. I saved that as an AVI and the error frame was saved as well. I applied the 4cc change to that saved AVI.

It's still not working. I tried to apply it to the original AVI and then run the AVS script but no, the error is still there.
