  1. Hi,

I hope this is not in contradiction to the rule... since it's from a friend's copy
I have this weird problem with several DVD rip i got.
I have a NEC 3500 and so far I've never had any problems burning or ripping DVD.

My friend gave me some DVD Rips and He tried copying the RIPS using NERO when I played it using POWERDVD on the pc, it plays fine but when I put it in the DVD Player, the format is distorted ( The image is missing the bottom) and the picture plays in black and white?

I suggested him to just copy the content of the VIDEO_TS from the source and burn it on a DVD RW , which I transfered onto my pc and burned it with my NEC 3500 and still the same problem...

I can't seem to find what could be wrong because when played on POWER DVD it plays perfectly fine...somehow when I play it on any DVD PLayer it either play distorted and black and white or not at all( I tried on 2 other DVD players and it wouldnt even play)...

Is there something I am missing?

ps: My friend got me 2 other DVD rips and samething happens ....can his BENQ 1620 messing up the format?

It's not the BENQ 1620 screwing up the format. Perhaps if you tried backing up a legitimate dvd with the BENQ 1620 you would probably find out it isn't the drive but the files you've downloaded!

  3. Well, you shouldn't be copying copies, but going by your description, think I know what the problem is.

The DVDs you're copying are in the PAL television format. This is why you see the distortion when played on your TV which is NTSC. PowerDVD will play either NTSC or PAL on your computer.
