ffmpegX used to convert a 660 meg or so avi file into a 1.7-2.2 gig DVD, now it insists on using 4.5-6.0 gigs. I'm using decode with mplayer, and both the ffmpegX and mpgenc encodings. I tested an old avi that I had converted back at 0.0.9b or c, and the DVD was 1.73 gigs, that same avi file with the same settings now produces a 4.93 gig DVD.
This is very weird.
WHEN'S VERSION 1.0 COMING OUT!!!!

No specific changes have been occurred to mpeg-2 encoders recently. You should try using "ffmpeg DVD" with "best" bitrate and "Decode with Quicktime" disabled.
