  1. I have Nero and Roxio which program would be the best to back up loads of media and data files? Any guess?

  4. I have been very happy with Nero and actually removed my copy of Roxio from my computer. I back up alot of home videos and photos using it and (knock on wood) have had no problems.

Roxio has been dog poop since... well always. EZ-Coaster Creator went down the dumper sometime during version 4.0x, back when it was still owned by Adaptec. Every version Roxio has released has been horrible - some marginally so, some completely.

Use Nero, and click the 'verify written data' check box while burning. This will verify that the burn was successfull, and 100% accurate. Personally, I backup to TY DVD-R's.

  9. Deep Burner is freeware and does a great job. Similar interface as Roxio. Burns audio CDs, data CDs, and data DVDs.

I agree that Roxio is crap, Nero better but if all you want to do is backup data then Deep Burner or CDBurnerXP Pro are excellent free products that don't have the bloated overhead of the commercial packages. Since I use Shrink, DeCrypter, MPEG-VCR, and MovieFactory for DVD backup and Authoring work, my "straight" backup needs are pretty simple. CDBurnerXP Pro is a great alternative to Nero and Roxio for those simple everyday backups. For image backups, I recommend Acronis True Image 8.0.
