SSIA. How can I add a caption or hallmark that pops up for only a few seconds to my video? I work with DV-AVI files.

You need an editor or similar that allows overlays with alpha channels and varying opacity. There might even be a filter for virtualdub to do this.

Yes, the logo filter for VirtualDub does the trick. I think Jimmalenko has even written a guide for it!?!?
